Bundle of letters from James Francis Edward Keith, brother of the 10th Earl Marischal, George Keith, to John Keith, 3rd Earl of Kintore:

From Potsdam, 4 March 1749, resuming contact with Lord Kintore: "Mr Grant, one of the King's aide de camps, having got the permission of returning to Scotland for some months gives me the occasion of renewing a correspondence which has been too long interrupted, but the ridiculous jealousy of those I then served made a crime to me of the most innocent letters I could write...", and speaking of his difficulties in Russia, "a country dangerous to all foreigners", whereas "I shall give you only one instance of the kindness of the Prince I now have the happiness to serve", citing Friedrich's immediate invitation to Keith's brother to join him in Prussia.

From Berlin, 1 September 1749, discussing his health. He hopes for recovery, "but in all events, I find the familly is not without a lawfull heir. Bishop [Robert] Keith has sent me a geneology in which he shows that his nephew is the nearest heir...", and also making arrangements for regular correspondence with Lord Kintore.

From Potsdam, 10 March 1750, mentioning the question of his heir and also arrangements for the delivery and preservation of certain papers.

From Potsdam, 28 May 1751: "I hope by the time you receive this letter your Lordship may have got from Mr Hay of Drummelliere the paper which my brother and I signed impowering you to act in everything which may concern the interest of the family." He and his brother are both in good health, and "our absence from our relations and our countrymen is the only thing that is contrary to our wishes".

From Potsdam, 25 August 1752, discussing a proposed purchase of property [formerly held by the Earl Marischal?] by Lord Kintore. With a postscript "I send this under a merchant's cover and in their size of letters as being the surest and quickest method of conveyance."
