DescriptionJournal of Jonathan Troup: 25th September 1793 to 7th of May 1794

He visited Broomhill to find Miss Fraser is 'huffed' at him for requiring a written oath as to her virginity so he gives her up again. A few days later, he visited Broomhill but the door was shut in his face. He made several attempts to renew his acquaintance including sending her a letter (which she did not open and she scolded the girl who delivered it); sending her love songs; sending yet another letter asking her to marry him (she denies him and he learns that her mother is in a passion). He gave Miss Fraser until the 14th of April to think on her marriage to him and if not then 'he is off'. He sent her a picture 'naked of her self and her own hair all wrapped up in a pair of new garters and covered with 24 pieces of paper' but did not receive an immediate reply. A few days later, he send several poems and gifts to Miss Fraser. Some were returned with a note saying these were disagreeable to her. Troup sees this as proof of her innocence and again gives her until the 14th to respond to his offer of marriage
