He drew a tooth He made notes on some French exercises He treated a young lad for a swollen and inflamed testicle He made more notes on fate in marriage He remarks on how to treat shivering and a sore throat He made notes from a 'History of women from Eve to the year 1782' by William Alexander M.D. (2 volumes, London 1782) and from 'View of the Character and Public Services of the late John Howard esq.' by John Aitken M.D. He treated a 15 year old girl with fever He read and makes notes from 'La Sainte Bible qui contiente L'ancien et the Louveau Testament Nouvelle Edition revu et corrigé in Amsterdam chez les Wetsteins' He gave a description of the character of a Mr Lumsden He read Andrew Shirrefs 'Poems' (ed. 1790) He treated Thomas Fraser and his serving girl, whom he 'ravished', for a venereal complaint and ulcers with phimosis. He later notes that both of them were better and that the serving maid's father had removed her from Service. In March, he remarks that the maid wants to return to her service and remarks 'how inconsistent' He read 'Addresses to young men' by James Fordyce D.D. (2 volumes, 1777) which he describes as 'good' He told of the death of a mother a week after the delivery of a living son He read and made notes on 'Letters on Iceland made during a voyage in 1772' by J Banks and wrote [sic] by Uns von Frail or Trail D.D., 1st Chaplain to his Swedish majesty (London, 1780) He treated P Cromar for gravel, hiccup, sickness and violent pain in right kidney He wrote a reel for Rebecca Fraser and visited her several times during this period He saw 'a fine girl at Forbes' and she is fond of me and I kiss her' He noted that war with France had begun He treated the Provost for ague He made a trip to Aberdeen where the cold and punch he drank gave him purging and gripes all night He read Matilda on the effects of Virtue (3 volumes, London 1785) and Blair's Sermons He fretted about Miss Frasers plans to go to the West Indies He treated a 4 year old with small pox but he died and a young man with fever who also died He treated a patient who had had an accident with a knife He remarked that Nelly Forbes' child is due in two months He composed a slow tune for Miss Fraser with words He made notes about superstitious notions and the effect of the imagination He decided to 'run all risques' with Miss Fraser if she will open her mind to him He read and made notes on Zimmerman on Solitude translated from German (London, 1791) |
