Administrative HistoryMary (Mally Beattie) (1744 - 1807), Beattie's wife. Beattie met her when he boarded with her father on first coming to Aberdeen in 1758. They married in 1767.
DescriptionLetter from Mary Beattie, Aberdeen, to Lady Mayne, thanking her for her last letter. Mrs Beattie talks about how the physician agreed that medicine Lady Mayne recommended to Mrs Beattie was suitable and the letter mentions that the medicine is not available in Aberdeen. Mrs Beattie writes that her health is quite well and Mr Beattie's arm is healing. She mentions the completion of the second part of 'The Minstrel' and Jamie's [her son's] intellectual character. Also says that Mr Beattie is not as happy as she is with the second part of 'The Minstrel'. Letter talks about Lord Carysford's intended marriage. Mrs Beattie ends her letter offering the Beatties' respectful compliments to Lady Carysford; Miss Proby; Miss Cooper; Miss Graham; Sir William and Lady Mayne.
