Alexander Chalmers [1759-1834] Son of James Chalmers printer in Aberdeen. Marischal College 1774-78, pupil of Beattie. Journalist and writer in London from 1777. Edited an edition of Beattie's poems with biograhpy, 1805
Description
Westminster Magazine which Chalmers took on has closed. [The final issue was in December 1785]. Look forward to Evidences. Refers to a passage in manuscript copy of Beattie's lectures, on harmfulness of habits of doubting. Proposes a satirical work 'A system of atheism' in opposition to Evidences. Will Campbell ever publish gospels?
