Lady (Frances) Mayne, later Lady Newhaven [d. 1801]. Wife of Sir William Mayne. Formerly Frances Allen, the heiress of a considerable estate in Ireland. She kept up a correspondence with Beattie and his wife for some years
Description
About his injuries. Congratulates Lady Mayne on Sir William's success in the general election. Beattie was offered and declined a living in the Church of England of £500 a year by Dr. Thomas, Bishop of Winchester, who has never even seen him. Beattie will send Lady Mayne a copy of his letter to Porteus, and asks her to show it to Dr. Majendie. Praises Gatton referring to many features including Titian's Nativity in the dining room. Dr. Priestley has lately written of him with much petulance, and Beattie has prepared some materials to defend himself.
