| Description | Folio notebook with excerpts and notes from authors consulted. The excerpts are arranged alphabetically (usually by author) and cover a range of areas from Europe to Asia. They are interspersed with shorter notes on language use and similar topics. Enclosed is a nine-page manuscript headed "Translation of old French in Preface, pp. X - XIII", containing the English version of the pastiche description of 19th-century Great Britain in the style of Marco Polo which appears in the preface to the second edition of Yule's Marco Polo [cf. MS 2860/10/1]. Also included: sheet of "Notes of Cossya Grammar" and plan and profile tracings of fortifications, marked "Dufours system" and "Profiles of the Cavalier and Ravelin".
