Description | Leather-bound volume containing (a) 27 pages in Latin of a manuscript entitled "Genealogy of the ancient and illustrious Arbuthnott Family [abbreviated and continued]", going up to 1583 and the burial of Principal Arbuthnott in King's College Chapel, Aberdeen, on 2 October 1582. A note in a later hand states that this manuscript is by John Ker, Professor of Greek at King's College and afterwards of Humanity at Edinburgh. [The manuscript is of early 18th-century date.]
After several blank pages there is then bound in (b) a 16-page manuscript headed "Arbuthnott Viscount of Arbuthnott", giving the armorial bearings of the family, mentioning the Latin manuscript of Principal Alexander Arbuthnott [cf. MS 2764/3/1/1] and its continuation to the time of Charles I by Alexander Arbuthnott, sometime parson of Arbuthnott [cf. MS 2764/3/1/8]. This takes the genealogy up to the death of Robert, Viscount of Arbuthnott in 1710 and the succession of John, "present Lord Viscount of Arbuthnott" [the 5th Viscount, who succeeded in 1710 and died in 1756]
