The contents are: (1) The Lords of Arbuthnott, by D. Murray Rose [pamphlet, 20 pages, undated c. 1900]; no annotations (2) pages 272 - 316 [proof?] copy of J.B. Paul: "The Scots Peerage" Vol. I. Edinburgh: D. Douglas, 1904, containing the article "Arbuthnott, Viscount of Arbuthnott". Article interleaved with Macphail's corrections and additions.
Various press cuttings of Arbuthnott interest are stuck in on the inside covers of the book.
The book also contains several loose letters, including one from Macphail's executors, dated 1934, to Lord Arbuthnott, stating that the book had been found among Macphail's papers and passing it to the family, with note of appreciation by Lord Arbuthnott. Also various other letters and notes relating to the Arbuthnott family and to the proposed Spalding Club publication. |
