DescriptionLetters of assignation granted at [?]Muchall by John Forbes of Balnagask, son and heir of the late Master Duncan Forbes of Balnagask, his father, donator after specified. Duncan Forbes had been granted by the Crown the gift of escheat of the late Sir Alex. Fraser of Fraserburgh to the extent of £10,000 Sc.in which. Robert Fraser fiar of Cairnbulg
was concerned by contract of 21 Oct. 1616 between Simon, Lord Fraser of Lovat and others (including Sir Alex.) , and Alex. Fraser then of Cairnbulg, formerly of Durris, & his son Robert, in which Alex. and his son Robert promise not to dispone lands of cairnbulg etc. during lifetime of Sir Alex. under penalty of £10,000 Sc. which became escheat to the crown & were granted to Duncan Forbes under the privy seal on [?] 21 Nov. 1620 & Forbes obtained summonds of declarator against Sir Alex. and Robert Fraser etc. on 6 or 7 Mar. 1621 and Robert Fraser was ordered to pay £10000 Sc. to late Duncan Forbes. Rights to this sum inherited from his father now assigned by John Forbes to Andrew Fraser of Stoneywood. Procuratory of registration is included. Duly signed and witnessed. Witnesses: John Baird, writer thereof, Walter Cheyne of Tillie......., James Baird.
