Administrative HistoryWilliam Hunter graduated A.M. at Marischal College in 1830 and was admitted to the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen in 1840. For some time he was the factor to the University of Aberdeen and was awarded the honorary degree of LL.D. by Aberdeen University in 1890.

James Edmond, to whom Hunter was apprenticed, was an alumnus of Marischal College, Aberdeen, 1811 - 1814. He was admitted a member of the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen in 1821 and was Lecturer in Scots Law and conveyancing at Marischal College from 1828 to 1843.
