Date19 January 1930
Extent1 item
DescriptionSempill, John, 18th Baron, Fintray House, Aberdeenshire: letter to unknown correspondent [? perhaps Mr Osborne - compare similar query put to Lord Forbes by him of 19 April 1930], stating that he had very few Sempill family papers in his possession and that his charter chest as a Forbes had been 'sadly depleted by theft, carelessness and unreturned borrowings'. He did not know that Francis, [10th Lord Sempill, who was buried 4 August 1816 according to Burke's 'Peerage'] 'son of Anne Baroness Semple ... was the first of his family to be buried in Holyrood, but the late Baroness whom my father William 17th Baron succeeded was the last person to be buried in Holyrood viz. 1884'.
