Description | Letter from James Gregory to George [Gregory] enclosing a bill for 57 guineas being the amount of subscriptions for the late Dr Irvine's 'Letters on Sicily'; Gregory will keep the original list of subscribers in the hope of finding more but does not believe it likely; discusses money matters in Scotland and the lack of gold in circulation: in previous years he took 100 - 200 yellow guineas a year but since 1 January 1809, he has taken nearly £1000 from his practice and other work and only three of those were yellow guineas; class this winter has been as numerous and productive as last winter, past 2 years have been his two greatest classes; Dr Alison has had a violent and dangerous fever but is now convalescent and almost well; pleased with George's brother in every respect; his wife has not yet recovered her strength and spirits but is much better, there is some possibility of her being pregnant again; his father-in-law had gone through an operation to cut out a bladder stone and is recovering well, 23 March 1812.
The letter contains the first two pages only and ends very abruptly. |
