Dr John Rutherford resigned the chair of the practice of physic in the University of Edinburgh on 12 February 1766 and John Gregory was given an interim appointment.
Description
Freedom of the City of Edinburgh granted to John Gregory, professor of the practice of physic in the University of Edinburgh. The extract was taken from the guild books of the city by Alexander Duncan,Town Clerk depute, 12 February 1766.

Physical Description
The document carries an embossed paper seal which is held on to the document by a layer of wax. The details are hard to make out but the seal is presumably that of the City of Edinburgh.
