Administrative History
Rochsoles was a house in North Lanarkshire where Dorothea Montagu Alison was married to a Lt. Col. John Gerard.
Description
Letter to Dugald Stewart informing him of the death of Eliza, William Pulteney Alison's sister. He describes her final few days and asks Stewart to tell his wife and daughter, Maria. His parents are bearing the 'sad calamity with wonderful fortitude' but states that the news has been kept from Margaret [their sister] as her recovery has been slow. The news is also to be kept from Montagu which can't be done unless it is also concealed from Laura so no mention of it should be made in communications with Rochsoles, 15 July 1812.
