| Physical Description | The certificate is in Latin and carries a red wax seal which is attached to the document with a green ribbon. The seal carries the mottoes 'Sigillum Societatis Chirurgico-Obstetricae Edinburgenae 1785" and " Sequimur Haud Passibus Equis". It shows a hand facing palm forwards with the rod of Asclepius balancing on a fingertip with a crowing cockerel standing on the top of the staff. There are two heads in profile facing each other on opposite sides of the staff, their names are given but are unfortunately obscured in this seal. The edge of the seal is cracking so open the tin box with care. |
