Administrative History | James Fraser (1645-1731). James Fraser was born in Petty, Inverness in 1645 and attended Inverness Grammar School, then King's College (1660-1664). After graduating he established his reputation in London as a procurer of books for the aristocracy and the Royal Family. He was librarian to both the Stuart dynasty and their successors, William and Mary, and Queen Anne. He was also Secretary and Registrar of Chelsea Hospital and Deputy Licenser of the Press. King's College, Aberdeen, awarded him an honorary doctorate for his donation of rare books and funding for buildings. He also endowed 12 bursaries for Frasers or Invernessians.
