Administrative HistorySoon after the outbreak of the First World War, Prince Albert, later King George VI, developed appendicitis. Sir James Reid, physician to the King in Scotland, brought Prince Albert from Wick to Aberdeen on board the hospital ship 'Rohilla'. The Prince had his appendix removed by Sir John Marnoch, Professor of Surgery at Aberdeen, on the 9 September 1914.
