Administrative HistoryThis volume covers the period when McGrigor was stationed in Jersey with the 88th regiment and had to contend with an outbreak of typhus among the troops.
DescriptionDescription of surgical cases in the 88th Regiment at St. Owens barracks on Jersey. Medical Officers: Surgeon: McGrigor; Assistant Surgeons: Bruce and Brown.

Remarks are entered for each day and include the names of the patients, their complaints, the medicines prescribed, their progress and if they have been dismissed from hospital. The entries in the volume are not always in the same hand. The first section, numbered pages 1-76, has been inserted into the front of the volume and includes an index, which is not comprehensive. The volume then continues as normal but starting from page 9.

Weekly remarks have been included throughout the volume, but these do not offer any general comments on the health of the patients or the weather as in many of the other case books and comment only on individual cases:

6-10 November (pages 26-27)
11-19 November (pages 55-56)
20-26 November (pages 78-80): a typical entry reads: 'Scantlin. Very little difference in his complaints has taken place. Throat is still very tender, tho he says he finds no difficulty in swallowing; he has also some nodes on some of his limbs which prove troublesome to him. His constitution is in general exhausted & system much emanated from repeated neglected venereal [afflictions?]. The night sweatings are less profuse these some nights past' (p.79).

At the end of the volume there is a very brief index of diseases.
