Description | [Although numbered case book 7 on the spine, on the title page it is stated as being volume 8. The covering dates overlap with those of case books 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10.]
Description of cases in the hospital of the 88th regiment while stationed at St. Owens Bay, Jersey. The medical officers in charge were McGrigor as surgeon and his assistant surgeons Bruce and Brown. A note on the flyleaf reveals that the volume contains details of 'several cases of secondary syphilis, foul ulcers and other hepatic complaints'.
Weekly remarks have been entered for the following dates:
6-13 October (page 66): incomplete.
11-17 November (pages 112-113): 12 cases have been discharged since the previous week; of these a quarter are unfit for service. Five new cases have been admitted; discusses cases including one of syphilis and one of phthisis.
17-24 November (pages 122-123): of 11 cases reported the week before, 5 have been dismissed and 7 new cases have been admitted; the majority are trivial cases. Mentions progress of 5 patients.
On page 130 some brief remarks are entered for the 1 December describing the previous week's cases. Six cases have been dismissed and five admitted. Some of the cases are ulcers.
