Administrative HistoryThe 88th returned from the West Indies in October 1796. After disembarking at Portsmouth they marched to their regimental headquarters at Halifax in Yorkshire. McGrigor took leave at this point and did not rejoin the regiment until spring 1797.
DescriptionRecord of medical cases in the 88th regiment while stationed at York and in Halifax, Yorkshire. [On the title page, the covering dates are given as the 25 June-8 December 1796 but the daily entries only continue to the 5 December.] The medical officers in charge were McGrigor as Surgeon and his assistants Bruce and Thom. The cases mainly relate to gonorrhea, syphilis, ulcers and accidents.

The entries are not all in the same hand and no weekly reports have been provided. There is an index at the end of the volume.
