DescriptionCase book containing record of medical cases discussed at meetings of the Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society. Other business conducted at meetings is also sometimes recorded. Of particular note is the report of a meeting held on the 9 February 1905 at which a discussion was instigated by Matthew Hay on the typhus epidemic in Aberdeen.

The first part of the volume (pages 3-22) contains detailed notes on specific cases and lectures covering the period December 1886-June 1887. The case notes record the history of the case and the method of treatment. Cases and lectures include:

From page 95, the focus of the entries continues to be the content of cases and papers delivered by members of the Society, but other matters addressed at meetings are also sometimes referred to. Subjects discussed at meetings include:
5 November 1896: 'The opening meeting of the Society for 1896-97. Professor Stephenson delivered the customary address - he referred in sympathetic terms to the death of Dr. Marshall whose connection with the Society dated as far back as 1832, a period when the Society took its share in the education of the medical student, fulfilling practically the part of a Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons, without the power of granting a licenceā€¦'.
4 March 1897: Dr. Dalgarno showed a tumour from the thigh of a man aged 76; Dr. Ashley W. Mackintosh also referred to a case of tumour.
1 December 1898: Dr. Ferdinando read notes of two cases of exophthalmic goitre (p.111).

6 April 1899: Pathological evening: various members presented specimens for discussion including 'sections of a liver from a case of pernicious [anoemia?]' by Dr. Angus Fraser and 'the organs from a case of ulcerative endocarditis' by Dr. G. M. Duncan.

Pages 122-125 contain printed copies of minutes of meetings held between November 1899 and January 1900 with reprints of papers by Ashley W. Mackintosh and J. Scott Riddell enclosed entitled 'The Stereognostic Sense' and 'Appendicitis' respectively. From this point onwards, minutes of meetings, mainly recording the discussion of particular cases, are pasted into the volume at various points. Other cases presented for discussion include:

8 February 1900: Professor Stephenson read a paper on 'Tubal Abortion' (page 126).

14 January 1904: Clinical Evening. Cases on various subjects were presented including three cases of nervous disease.
3 March 1904: Discussion on gastric ulcers (p.163).
3 November 1904: Presidential Address delivered by Dr. Cash relating to certain points affecting dosage as an element in the effective administration of remedies (p.171).
9 February [March?] 1905: 'Discussion on the present typhus epidemic in Aberdeen - commenced by Dr. Matthew Hay (4 pages of notes on the content of this discussion are recorded in the minutes).

20 February 1908: Cases of narcolepsy, Dr. A. W. Mackintosh and Dr. J. G. MacKenzie.
