| Administrative History | The death mask of Napoleon was found by Dr. Reid when he was lecturing in anatomy in London. He later became Professor of Anatomy in Aberdeen. The copy of the post-mortem report on Napoleon held by the Society, dated 6 May 1821, carries five signatures, one belonging to Charles Mitchell, an Aberdeen graduate. A former President of the Society in 1823, Dr. Patrick Blaikie, was the Surgeon on board the ship the 'Bellerophon' that transported Napoleon to St. Helena. The Society also holds a file of papers including newspaper cuttings and photocopied articles relating to the death mask and the post-mortem report. See 'The Heritage of the Med-Chi', pages 91-93 for further information. |
